POETRY PUBLICATION: “when you leave your country don’t forget” (2020)

“my mother’s mango eyes regrow best when no one is watching, and she dips them into her stomach when they don’t stop bleeding, she dips them into her stomach when her children aren’t eating, when her children are sleeping, aren’t sleeping.”

I come bearing POETRY!

The first publication I have to share in this mini series is a poem called “when you leave your country don’t forget” which was the second prose poem I ever wrote & one of my earliest poems. This poem was the first place winner of my uni library’s contest in 2020, aka they thought this was worth $250 hehe.

About: immigration, matriarchs, and mangoes!

I wrote this the day before the contest deadline in about 10 minutes in my first year dorm lounge. I had noooo idea how to write poems & was so excited that someone liked this! 18-year-old me has been waiting to share this for forever!

omg was not expecting this this is so cool
